Article on how one high school IB program includes picking up trash in it's curriculum

http://bungalowbillscw.blogspot.com/2012/05/international-baccalaureate-better.html

Click on this link to read about how some high school students in an IB program are picking up trash as part of their "studies".

msw found this information on the Adrienne's Corner.blogspot.com blog.

Spokane Blog - Huckelberries - reports on Washington Foundation Grant for IB

Click on link below to read this Spokane blog which includes some Missoula news.

You need to scroll down to the second and eighth stories to read about the IB program being implemented at Hellgate High School in addition to a grant for IB in Missoula. The blog includes links to Missoulian articles about IB.

The stories were brought up by the tag, "Missoula" on the Huckleberries Online website.

msw typed in Coeur d'Alene and Internatinal Baccalaureate Program which brought up the Huckelberries Online site.

One comment on the blog reads -

The idea that a foundation supports this program makes it stink even more. What about local control? Why not make it a private school so that those of us who don’t want our kids politically brainwashed by the UN can opt out of this?"

Washington Foundation donates $50,000 to MCPS program

Click on the link below to read the Missoulian article reporting on the Washington Foundation's donation of $50,000 to MCPS for the International Baccalaureate Program at Hellgate High School.

Washington Foundation donates $50,000 to MCPS program

Some quotes from the article follow:

"The International Baccalaureate program, which was founded in Switzerland in 1971, is a rigorous educational experience that focuses on developing "inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect."

and -

"At the high school level, the program usually runs for two years."

and -

"Students must choose one subject from each of groups 1 to 5, thus ensuring breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the experimental sciences and mathematics," the International Baccalaureate organization's website states."

and -

"Apostle said integrating the program into the Missoula school system is part of his 21st century learning initiative."

and -

"There's only one other public school that has this in the state, and here in Missoula we should be leading the charge," Apostle said.
That program is taught in Kalispell, although the private Missoula International School is also listed on the IBO website,ibo.org. {emphais msw}

and -

"Apostle said he thinks the program is about two years away from being implemented."

and -

"It will be housed at Hellgate, but any high school student in the county will be able to take part in it," he said."

and -

"Apostle said part of the Washington money may also go to support Graduation Matters Missoula, a recent initiative designed to keep children in school."

Comments from missoula schools watchdog:

-  NO mention that the IB program is associated with UNESCO thus the United Nations.

-  Notice that the other IB school in Missoula is the Missoula International School who is leasing Prescott School in a sweetheart lease arrangement (see prescottschoolmissoula.blogspot.com for more information on this issue).

-  missoula schools watchdog is of the opinion that MCPS Chairwoman Toni Rehbein is the main person pushing the implementation of the IB program in Missoula schools as Rehbein was a past president of Missoula International School shortly before being elected to the MCPS Board of Trustees.

-  missoula schools watchdog is of the opinion that the IB program being implemented at Hellgate High School is another favor to Rehbein's friends at her former school, MIS, so that the MIS IB students will be able to continue their IB classes at Hellgate at a reduced price (msw does not know if Hellgate IB students pay tuition) rather than MIS starting their own high school  IB program.

-  How much money is going to IB and how much is going towards the Graduation Matters program? - it would be nice to know.

-  There is no mention in this article about the exorbitant costs of IB for a school district. $50,000 is just a drop in the bucket for this program (one can read about the expense of the IB program on truthaboutib.com, a website dedicated to educating the public and school officials on IB).

The International Baccalaureate Progam (now at Hellgate High School) is an NGO of UNESCO - a branch of the United Nations

missoula schools watchdog would like to alert Missoula citizens about the link of the International Baccalaureate Program to the United Nations via UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations).

In a recent post msw recommended an article found on the truthaboutib.com website regarding UNESCO and how it is dangerous for our young people. This article was written in the 1950's and reveals how UNESCO is difficult to understand but at the same time permeates our American society.

Some of the information on the post just mentioned is also on this post, however, msw wished to have a specific post emphasizing the UN link to the International Baccalaureate Program.

From the wikepedia website on UNESCO one reads the following paragraph:

"The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (French L'Organisation des Nations unies pour l’éducation, la science et la culture: UNESCO; play /juːˈnɛsk/) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its purpose is to contribute peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the UN Charter.[1] It is the heir of the League of Nations' International Commission on Intellectual Cooperation."

Also from the wikipedia website is the following short explanation of NGO's with a list of the "formal associates" of UNESCO.

As one can see in the list below the International Baccalaureate is first on the list of  these "formal associates".

Missoulians - please take note that our school district, Missoula County Public Schools, under the leadership of Board Chairwoman Toni Rehbein and Superintendent Apostle, is now offering the International Baccalaureate Program for Missoula high school students at Hellgate High School. IB is now in its first year at Hellate.

In other words, Missoula County Public Schools is now offering a program (a very expensive one at that) for approximately
100 students (msw read this is a recent Missoulian article which msw will link to as time permits), a program that is basically sponsored by the United Nations.

On the truthaboutib.com website, one will read how some believe that the International Baccalaureate Program is unconstitutional.

msw urges Missoulians to check out the wikipedia information on UNESCO (perhaps there are other websites that are just as preferable) and the International Baccalaureate Program and voice their opinion against the IB program to the school district. (msw will try to add the contact information for the district as time permits).

Missoula County Public Schools failed to complete a feasibility study prior to implementing the IB Program at Hellgate High School

If one goes to the truthaboutib.com website and reads the list of  topics about the International Baccalaureate Program one will see a link to "Feasibility Study" to the left of the page.

To msw's knowledge there has never been a feasibility study for implementing the International Baccalaureate Program at Hellgate High School.

To msw's knowledge citizens and perhaps not even district officials know the costs of the IB program to date at Hellgate.

In the beginning, when msw found out the district was planning on implementing the IB program, msw asked Superintendent Apostle how much the IB program was going to cost the district. Apostle's answer was "We don't know yet"

For a long time district officials would point to the $50,000 grant received from the Washington Foundation when asked about the costs.  $50,000 can only go so far, however, and then district money needs to be spent.

Before implementing any program such as IB, citizens and certainly district officials need to complete a feasibility plan.

When IB at Hellgate was in the beginning stages of just talking with the public about the program, msw found out about the truthaboutib.com website and read the information on the costs.  msw was astounded at how expensive the program is as outlined in TAIB (Truth About IB) documents.

msw printed some of the information regarding the fees of the IB program found on the above website and placed it in two or three MCPS School Board packets so that Board members and other citizens could read about the expense of the IB program.

msw does not believe that any Board members heeded the information or thought that it was important.  EXCEPT ONE.

Trustee Larry Foust made the decision to quit the school board earlier this year as he did not want to vote on a program he did not believe in (IB). Perhaps the cost of the program was a significant issue for Foust, also. (msw is guessing that there may have been other reasons for his quitting the MCPS Board as msw's observations of the Board for many years under the leadership of Trustees Harrison, Hemphill, and Rehbein has been tortuous!)

See links below to the truthaboutib.com website where one can find information on school district feasibility studies (list on the left) and to an article from a Spokane newspaper regarding the resignation of Larry Foust.

1952 article "UNESCO - The Greatest Danger to America's Youth" featured on truthaboutib.com website PLUS list of NGO's with the International Baccalaureate Program listed FIRST

msw just came across an interesting article on the truthaboutib.com website.  It is titled, "UNESCO - The Greatest Danger to America's Youth".

msw does not see a link to the article at this time, however, one can access it on the above website.

The article is written by Lillian Moore Roberts. Roberts wrote the article for the Freedom Club in 1952.  According to the truthaboutib.com website, the article is just as relevant today as it was in the '50's.

The International Baccalaureate Program, IB for short, is one of the most prominent, if not the most prominent NGO (non-governmental organizations) of UNESCO.

See list below from the wikipedia site:

There is a section on UNESCO and NGO's in the information provided on the wikipedia site for UNESCO which begins with the following paragraph and ends with a list of some NGO's.

"UNESCO enjoys official relations with 322 international non-governmental organizations (NGOs).[45] Most of these are what UNESCO calls "operational", a select few are "formal".[46] The highest form of affiliation to UNESCO is "formal associate", and the 22 NGOs[47] with formal associate (ASC) relations occupying offices at UNESCO are:"

News Alert! Coeur d'Alene Idaho ends the IB program in CoeurdAlene schools (while Missoula is just beginning this unnecessary and expensive program at Hellgate HIgh)

Coeur d'Alene Idaho, our neighbors to the west, has now officially kicked out the International Baccalaureate Program from their schools.

Now Missoula needs to do the same.

Across the home page of the truthaboutib.com website today one can see a yellow banner with the wording, "Coeur d'Alene Idaho Board of Education votes unanimously to eliminate IB! 10/1/12."

missoula schools watchdog has been attempting to alert Missoula citizens about the downside of the International Baccalaureate Program for approximately the last two years - since around the time Superintendent Alex Apostle came to Missoula.

msw had placed information from Truth About IB (truthaboutib.com) in Board packets, spoke out against IB at monthly School Board Meetings, and sent emails to the superintendent and Board members.

None of these attempts made any difference as the IB program at Hellgate now has 100 students.
At what cost?  msw had not been given a figure.  How can it be a small amount when our district is sending our teachers all over the country and even out of the country (Toronto) for training.

Missoulians can check out the truthaboutib.com website and read some astounding information about the International Baccalaureate Program.

msw is quite sure once people read a few articles they will be against the IB program continuing in our schools.  Remember that the district is thinking about converting an entire elementary school, Lewis and Clark School, into an elementary IB school!

As msw had mentioned in other blog posts, Board Chairwoman Toni Rehbein was the president of Missoula International School shortly before being elected to the MCPS Board of Trustees.  MIS is an IB school

Could this be why this controversial program has proliferated in our school district? Could the IB program at Hellgate be another favor to Rehbein's friends at MIS so that their students can continue the IB program where their studies ended at the Missoula International School?  msw thinks it is an entirely credible possibility.

We, as concerned citizens of Missoula need to end Board Chairwoman Toni Rehbein's questionable ideas of a good education. Coeur d'Alene Idaho did it - we can too!

Trust Law - This is what many believe "governs" our Trustees - A little information on the MCA Trust Law Codes

What is Trust Law?  I asked a friend versed in trust law a few years ago.  The short answer - Trust Law is a combination of English Common Law and Statues (msw believes statues are laws made by the legislature).

Trust Law is being brought up on this blog post as many believe that Trust Law contains the guiding rules for Missoula County Public Schools Board Trustees.  Otherwise, why would these elected officials be named "Trustees"?  It couldn't be just to add a fancy title to their names, could it?

msw would like to provide some links, although it certainly will not be complete, to Montana's Trust Law as contained in the Montana Code Annotated (MCA for short).

To start -

Below is a link to Title 72 of the MCA, the portion of the MCA having to do with Trust Law.
